  • Syracuse Targets Continue Solid Play At 4th EYBL Session

    By Michael McAllister

The 4th session of the EYBL concluded on Memorial Day, and the top 24 teams advanced to the Peach Jam. In this session, CIA Bounce finally lost their first game of the EYBL. In fact, they lost two in a row before turning things around and winning back to back games. They had to forfeit their final game due to flight issues, and having already clinched the top overall seed. Many Syracuse targets were in action over the weekend. Here is how they fared.

Tyler Ennis: 2013 PG - CIA Bounce

Tyler Ennis had another solid all-around session. He averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game. Ennis show over 45% from the field, and made 10 out of 15 from beyond the arc (67%). He continues to show why he's one of the best floor generals in his class. A classic point-guard who runs his offense efficiently, and intelligently. Ennis turns it over infrequently, and rare makes mental mistakes.

    Xavier Rathan-Mayes: 2013 SG - CIA Bounce

Rathan-Mayes had perhaps his worst performance in any EYBL session, mainly due to struggling to shoot the ball. He only averaged 11 points per game, while shooting 35% from the floor. He did make 9 three-pointers, but it took 27 attempts to do so. Despite that, he had a very good performance in the team's fourth game, scoring 19 points and going 3-5 from beyond the arc. Rathan-Mayes is still one of the deadliest outside shooters in the 2013 class.

Andrew Wiggins: 2014 SF - CIA Bounce

Yet another Syracuse target on CIA Bounce, Andrew Wiggins might be the best player in the 2014 class at any position. He had another dominant performance, averaging nearly 20 points per game while grabbing 5 rebounds. He shot nearly 59% from the field overall, and 39% from three-point range. Wiggins is a tremendous talent, who can score from anywhere. His athleticism, offensive creativity, and elite scoring talent were on full display. Wiggins had two extraordinary performances this session. The first was in their second game, a loss, where he scored 32 points on 11-17 shooting, including 6-11 from the outside. He also grabbed 5 rebounds, had 2 steals, and blocked a shot. In CIA Bounce's final game, Wiggins scored 30 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and had 2 steals on 9-16 shooting.

    Dakari Johnson: 2014 C - E1T1

Dakari Johnson may be the best rebounder in the EYBL, and in his class. While he didn't shoot the ball as well this session as he had in the past, he continued posting elite rebounding and defensive numbers. Johnson averaged 12 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block per game while shooting 43% from the field. Johnson is a beast inside, and is already rated as one of the top big men in his class.

Dayshon Smith: 2013 PG - NY Lightning

Dayshon Smith has been an under the radar prospect who needs events like these to stand out. His stock has been rising in part due to his performances in the EYBL. While his team has struggled overall, Smith continues to play well despite that. He averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game while shooting over 41%. His best performance was in their last game, where he filled up the stat sheet. Smith had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals. Smith can play, and looks to continue gaining interest from major programs.

Isaiah Briscoe: 2015 PG - NJ Playaz

Briscoe might be the top Syracuse target for the class of 2015, and he continues to show why. One of the few high school freshman in the EYBL, he played very well. In our session 3 recap, we said Briscoe needed to look to set his teammates up more and be more of the classic point-guard. He showed that he can do just that in this session. If you take away NJ Playaz' last game where Briscoe only played a couple of minutes, he averaged nearly 11 points, over 3 assists, and 1 steal per game. His ability to score is never in question. His first step is as quick as anyone's, and he's fantastic attacking the rim. But what was impressive was seeing him have games with 4 and 5 assists despite limited action. As Briscoe grows and develops, he could end up being a special talent.

Theo Pinson: 2014 SF - Chris Paul All-Stars

Pinson had a solid session, and was very efficient shooting the ball. He didn't play a ton of minutes, but made them count. He averaged 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while shooting nearly 57% from the floor. Pinson is an athletic wing who is very talented on the offensive end. He can do a little bit of everything on the floor, and appears to be the type of forward Jim Boeheim craves.

JaQuel Richmond: 2014 PG - Chris Paul All-Stars

Richmond had his best shooting performance of the EYBL this past weekend. While he only averaged 8 points per game, he shot over 45% from the floor. Richmond also averaged 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal per game. Richmond is a solid point-guard prospect who shows flashes of being an elite level talent.

    Youssoupha Kane: 2013 C - Chris Paul All-Stars

Kane was a late edition to the Chris Paul All-Stars, having only played in the last two sessions. Therefore, he's just starting to get into a regular rotation. However, he played very well over the weekend. Kane averaged 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal per game while shooting over 69% from the field. Kane is proving that he can play with the best, and should be a coveted recruit in the 2013 class. You simply can't teach his athleticism and length.

Chinonso Obokoh: 2013 C - Albany City Rocks

Obokoh had a solid yet unspectacular session, averaging 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block per game. He did shoot nearly 56% from the floor, however. Obokoh's team did not make the cut to advance to the Peach Jam, and really struggled going 6-14 in the EYBL. They simply lack the offensive talent to be able to score consistently, and Obokoh's production suffers somewhat because of that. That said, he proved over the four sessions that he can play with elite big men.

Anthony Barber: 2013 PG - Boo Williams

Barber is another elite point-guard on the Orange's radar. He had maybe the best session of anyone in the EYBL. He averaged 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal while shooting over 56% from the floor and 49% from beyond the arc. He was simply dominant. It was a breakout performance for Barber who had struggled shooting the ball in previous sessions.

Stanley Johnson: 2014 SF - Oakland Soldiers

Stanley Johnson continues to prove why he's one of the best wing prospects in the 2014 class. Johnson averaged nearly 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals per game while shooting 52% from the floor. Johnson is long, athletic, and has an explosive offensive game. He also has touch from the outside, hitting seven three-pointers over the weekend.

Ishmail Wainright: 2013 SF - Team Takeover

Wainright struggled in limited minutes in this session. He only averaged 4 points and 3 rebounds per game, and missed a couple games as well. It appears he may have had an injury which kept him out of extended action.

    BeeJay Anya: 2013 C - Team Takeover

Anya had perhaps his best performance of any session of the EYBL. The big man averaged 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game while shooting nearly 52% from the floor. Anya is a load inside. Though he's only 6'8", he's strong and has good footwork inside.

Rondae Jefferson: 2013 SF - Team Final

Jefferson continued to do a little bit of everything on the floor. He averaged 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block per game. Jefferson also shot the ball, at over 47% from the floor. His best performance came in Team Final's last game. He had 14 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block. Jefferson's ability to impact the game in a variety of ways is why he has become one of the best wing prospects in his class.

    Goodluck Okonoboh: 2013 C - BABC

Goodluck shot the ball, making 8 of the 12 shots he attempted. However, he only averaged 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. He played very well defensively, blocking and altering shots. But his offensive game is a bit raw, and he hasn't dominated the glass as well as you would hope. Still, he's an intriguing prospect with tremendous upside.
