Last night, Jim Boeheim said the Fab Melo situation is taking longer to resolve than originally expected. He wouldn't elaborate more than that, but it is now expected that Fab will not be available when Syracuse faces West Virginia on Saturday in the Dome, according to an ESPN report.
Fab has missed games against Notre Dame and Cincinnati already, and the Orange are 1-1 in those contests. The news that he will not play Saturday doesn't come as much of a surprise, given that we really haven't heard anything substantial about his status, other than a Syracuse.com report saying it could be "a while." Fab's status after Saturday is still up in the air.
The onus of controlling both Kevin Jones and Deniz Kilicli inside falls on Rakeem Christmas and Baye Keita. The good news is, the Orange have now had over a week to adjust to life without Fab. And if Monday at Cincinnati was any indication, they should be fine for the immediate future.
