  • Catching Up With 2015 PG Prospect Isaiah Briscoe

    By Michael McAllister

2015 point-guard prospect Isaiah Briscoe, out of St. Benedict's high school in New Jersey, has been a Syracuse target for a little while now. He's also a teammate of 2013 point-guard prospect Tyler Ennis, who's also a Syracuse target. In fact, over the last few days, Jim Boeheim and Gerry McNamara went to see him play and made him an official offer. That offer came a couple of days after he spoke with us. Isaiah was also in attendance for Midnight Madness at the beginning of the season. His sister, Iasia Hemingway, is a senior on the Syracuse women's basketball team. Isaiah gave us some great insight into his game, his thoughts on Syracuse, and his time frame for making a decision.

Nation of Orange: How has your season been going so far?

Isaiah Briscoe: The season has been going well. We are 18-1. I love playing with Melvin and Tyler (Ennis). I average about 13 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds per game.

Nation of Orange: Describe your game. What are some strengths and weaknesses in your game?

Isaiah Briscoe: I'm a 6'3" point-guard. I'm an honest shooter. I can dribble and get my teammates involved. I score when my team needs it and make huge plays in clutch situations. My weakness has become my strength. I've been working very hard on my defense and playing both sides of the court.

Nation of Orange: What must are you listening to on your iPod right now?

Isaiah Briscoe: I'm listening to wiz khalifa and asap rocky.

Nation of Orange: What schools have you been hearing from as far as recruiting?

Isaiah Briscoe: I have offers from Seton Hall, Rutgers, DePaul, Cincy, Baylor, Pitt, Miami, and Arizona. I've also been hearing from 'Cuse, Ohio State, Florida, UCLA, Virginia, 'Nova, Maryland, Duke, and Georgetown.

Nation of Orange: Do you have a top 5 or any early favorites?

Isaiah Briscoe: No, not at the moment.

Nation of Orange: Who have you been hearing from the most?

Isaiah Briscoe: 'Nova, Ohio State, Virginia, Georgetown, Maryland, and Syracuse.

Nation of Orange: What have you been hearing from Syracuse? What do you like about them?

Isaiah Briscoe: That they have an offer for me whenever I'm ready to sign, and I like how he lets his guards play free and take over games. Everybody has been recruiting me from there besides just Boeheim. The zone is alright but I prefer man.

Nation of Orange: Would the fact that Syracuse plays zone be something that could keep you from playing there?

    Isaiah Briscoe: No it wouldn't.

Nation of Orange: What about Arizona? What's attractive about them?

Isaiah Briscoe: I love their guard play, and I love Coach Book! Booker is who's been recruiting me from there.

Nation of Orange: Is there any time table for your decision?

Isaiah Briscoe: After this year. Either after the AAU summer or right before it.

Nation of Orange: What will be the most important factor in your decision on where to go to school?

Isaiah Briscoe: I will go where they LOVE me.

Nation of Orange: Do you have any visits planned?

Isaiah Briscoe: Not at the moment.

Nation of Orange: What current player, college or pro, is your game most similar to?

Isaiah Briscoe: I model my game after Deron Williams and Tyreke Evans. My favorite player is Jamal Crawford in addition to those two. For a college player it would be Corey Fisher even though he's not in college anymore.

Nation of Orange: Did you have a favorite NBA team growing up?

Isaiah Briscoe: My favorite NBA teams are the Warriors and Kings.

We'd like to thank Isaiah for taking the time to speak with us. You can follow him on twitter @_isaiah11.
