Wayne Morgan was one of the highest profile recruits for Syracuse in the 2012 class. He was rated as a 3-star defensive back prospect out of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn. Ultimately, he chose Syracuse over offers from Alabama, Penn State, Miami, Maryland, UConn, Rutgers, and Boston College. We caught up with Morgan to discuss his commitment to the Orange, his game, and his expectations for the upcoming season.
Nation of Orange: Why did you ultimately commit to Syracuse?
Wayne Morgan: The fact that the coach was from the city like me and he knows how it is to make the transition. I know if I want to ask him something he will be there. And the fact that they're going to the ACC.
Nation of Orange: Do prospects in the New York City area all discuss Syracuse as a destination of choice?
Wayne Morgan: Yes. People from almost every school in the city admire Syracuse because of how heavy they're recruiting down here. And the fact that it's far, but not too far.
Nation of Orange: You'll be playing in the upstate/downstate game in the Dome coming up. What are your thoughts on the event?
Wayne Morgan: I think about that game almost everyday. Just the thought of me playing in the Dome pumps me up every time. I can't wait.
Nation of Orange: What type of player should Syracuse fans expect to see?
Wayne Morgan: I'm an explosive player and a game changer on any side of the ball. Especially when I have the ball in my hands.
Nation of Orange: What are you working on this summer in order to be ready for the season?
Wayne Morgan: I've been working on my speed, strength, and explosion.
Nation of Orange: What are your personal goals for your career at Syracuse?
Wayne Morgan: I want to become an All-American and be well-known around the country just like coming out of high school. I want to be invited to the NFL combine by my junior year.
Nation of Orange: You're friends with recent Syracuse commit Wayne Williams. Tell us about your relationship with him and what type of player he is.
Wayne Morgan: Yeah I'm cool with Wayne. He has a good personality and he will have you laughing. On the field, he's a monster and can't be blocked.
Nation of Orange: What are your expectations for the Orange this upcoming season?
Wayne Morgan: Make a bowl game and win the Big East.
Nation of Orange: Has Marrone given you any indication of what your role will be on the team this season? And what type of impact do you expect to make?
Wayne Morgan: He said he wants me back deep on kick returns. They're going to put me in a package on defense as well. I want to make a big impact on defense and the return game.
Nation of Orange: Why should Syracuse fans fill up the Dome this year?
Wayne Morgan: Tell Syracuse fans I said come out with their "lights out" shirt and signs because I'm going to make noise as soon as I get on the field.
