Recently, I had the chance to catch up with Chris McCullough, a 5-star recruit from the class of 2014. The 6'8" 205 pounder is currently ranked as the third best power forward prospect in his class.
Nation Of Orange: What part of your game is the strongest and what could use the most improvement?
Chris: The strongest part of my game is my ability to drive and go to the basket. I think my jumper could use improvement.
Nation Of Orange: What player would you compare your game to?
Chris: Kevin Durant. His shooting ability, length, and rebounding are good comparisons to my game.
Nation Of Orange: What schools have been in contact with you as far as your recruiting goes?
Chris: The whole Big East has been recruiting me pretty hard. So has Arizona, Iowa State, and Temple.
Nation Of Orange: Have any of them been out to visit you or catch a game?
Chris: Not yet. Basketball season hasn't started yet but I'm sure they will once we get going.
Nation Of Orange: What are your thoughts on Arizona and coach Miller?
Chris: Coach Miller is a good coach. I really like their style of play. They have a history of developing their forwards well, so I think I'd fit in really well there.
Nation Of Orange: Is distance from home a factor at all?
Chris: Distance doesn't matter. I want to go to the place that's the best fit for me.
Nation Of Orange: What about UConn? What's attractive about them and what do you think about coach Calhoun?
Chris: He's also a good coach. Their style of play would fit well with my game. Similar to Arizona, they develop their forwards well and I could see myself fitting in there well.
Nation Of Orange: How about Syracuse? Their system is a little different because of the zone. What are your thoughts on them and how you'd fit into the zone?
Chris: I can fit into their style very easily. My long arms and athletic ability would be a great fit in the zone. Since I've played zone in the past, it would be easy for me to pick it up.
Nation of Orange: Do you have any visits planned to Syracuse, Arizona, UConn or any other schools?
Chris: I've already visited Syracuse, Arizona, and UConn, and all were good visits.
Nation Of Orange: Who are your current favorites right now in terms of your recruitment?
Chris: My top schools right now are Syracuse, UConn, St. John's, Villanova, Florida, and Arizona. I don't have a favorite right now, so everyone is even.
Chris was very generous with his time and we thank him for doing the interview. Some very interesting things he mentioned there. He has six top schools at the moment, and based on how he describes his game, he'd fit in well with any of them. Especially if his game is anywhere close to Kevin Durant's. He's a highly rated recruit for a reason, and any school would be lucky to have him as part of their program.
