  • Catching Up With 2014 Guard Kahari Beaufort

    By Michael McAllister

Kahari Beaufort is a guard prospect in the 2014 class. He's a 6'2" combo guard that's originally from Connecticut, but has recently moved to New York. Beaufort's best friend is Kuran Iverson, a 2013 forward prospect. Currently, Beaufort is listed as 3-star prospect on Scout. Recently, Nation of Orange caught up with Beaufort to talk about his game, recruitment, and relationship with Iverson.

Nation of Orange: Describe your game, your strengths and weaknesses.

Kahari Beaufort: My weakness is my mid-range shooting. My strengths are getting to the basket and creating space for my shot. Also, handling the ball and backing down my shorter opponents.

Nation of Orange: Talk about yourself as a student and the role school work plays in your life.

Kahari Beaufort: I have to do it and it comes kind of easy to me. I'm the type of student who stays after school with teachers to get a better understanding of the work. I'm in the front of the class asking questions and stuff. People look up to that because while kids are fooling around, I'm trying to do what I have to do.

Nation of Orange: Have you played in any AAU events this year?

Kahari Beaufort: I played in one tournament and averaged 25 points and 10 assists. But I just got back from my foot problem. I had turf toe. It really was nothing but it kept me out. I'm back now and ready to go ham! Some schools did come see me work out in the beginning of the year though.

Nation of Orange: Which schools came to see you?

Kahari Beaufort: Towson, Iowa, Pittsburgh, Boston College, and Miami.

Nation of Orange: How has your recruitment gone? What schools have offered and shown interest?

Kahari Beaufort: I have offers from Baylor, Miami, and Providence. I'm also receiving interest from Boston College, Boston University, West Virginia, Kansas, St John's, Missouri, UMass, Tulane, Florida, St Joe's, UConn, Indiana, Fairfield, and Syracuse. They all have very high interest. I should be getting more offers sooner than you think.

Nation of Orange: Who has been in contact with you the most?

Kahari Beaufort: Baylor, Syracuse, UConn, Miami, Florida, and Kansas.

Nation of Orange: When was the last time Syracuse was in contact with you? Who's been recruiting you from there?

Kahari Beaufort: Last week. I believe Adrian Autry is his name. He talked to my uncle about me and Kuran Iverson. Kuran and I are like brothers. Blood couldn't make us any closer. I'd like to go to the same college as Kuran.

Nation of Orange: What about Syracuse is attractive to you?

Kahari Beaufort: I like how they play, their defense, how they play hard every second, and are not selfish.

Nation of Orange: Have you and Kuran discussed playing in college together?

Kahari Beaufort: Yeah here and there. But we focus on our school work first. He is like a big brother, always making sure I did my homework, take a shower, brush my teeth and everything.

Nation of Orange: What is it about UConn that's attractive to you? Who is recruiting you from the Huskies?

Kahari Beaufort: Kevin Ollie. I like how they push the ball, and if one guy is hot they keep finding him. The coaching style is good, no slacking.

Nation of Orange: Do you have any favorites right now or does anyone stand out?

Kahari Beaufort: Not really. I'm just seeing where things go. I'm only in 10th grade and I want to stay in my books before anything.

Nation of Orange: What are the most important factors for you in choosing a school?

Kahari Beaufort: One that will push me, and make me become better on and off the court. Great coaching style and game play.

Nation of Orange: Do you view yourself as a one and done type of player, a four year college player, or somewhere in between?

Kahari Beaufort: If I work hard, 1 and done is a possibility. But I really can't say because there are other players who work as hard or harder than me. I'm going to work my hardest and see where it goes from there.

Nation of Orange: Any plans to play in any AAU events for the rest of the summer?

Kahari Beaufort: Yeah. We are a Nike team so I'll be all over in Nike events. My team is the New York Lightning.

Nation of Orange: Any plans to take visits this year?

Kahari Beaufort: I'm going to start my junior year. Maybe when school is over in the summer. I'd like to visit Miami, Florida, UConn, Syracuse, and Baylor. Those are the ones I know of.

Nation of Orange: What do you like to do off the court?

Kahari Beaufort: Off the court I like to go chill with my bro Kuran Iverson or John Serve from CTK. Or go to the city and shop, or play NBA 2k12. Durant and Melo all day! I like to listen to Meek Mills, dreamchaser 2 all day!
