  • Catching Up With 2014 4-Star PG Prospect JaQuel Richmond

    By Michael McAllister

JaQuel Richmond, a four-star point-guard from the class of 2014, is a 6'1" 170 lb prospect from North Carolina. He has a quick first step, is great off the dribble, and has a solid mid-range jumper. Richmond also has good court vision and has a knack for setting his teammates up for open shots. Recently, Nation of Orange had a chance to talk to Richmond about his game, recruiting, and how his season's going.

Nation of Orange: Thanks for taking some time to speak with us. How's the season going so far?

JaQuel Richmond: Our season is going good so far. Right now our record is 17-3. I'm averaging 15 points a game.

Nation of Orange: Describe your game.

JaQuel Richmond: I would have to say I am straight point guard. I can break down my defender and get to the basket with no problem. I have an outside jumpshot but I always put my team first and think about myself last. I'm also very coachable.

Nation of Orange: What are some weaknesses you could work on in your game?

JaQuel Richmond: Some weaknesses in my game are just mental things pretty much.

Nation of Orange: What do you like to do off the court?

JaQuel Richmond: Off the court I like to draw, hang out with my friends, and just relax really.

Nation of Orange: What are you listening to on your iPod right now?

JaQuel Richmond: I listen to alot of Wale before games.

Nation of Orange: Do you have a top 5 at the moment?

JaQuel Richmond: My top 5 schools I would have to say so far are Syracuse, Duke, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and UConn.

Nation of Orange: Speaking of Syracuse, who's recruiting you from there? What's attractive about Syracuse?

JaQuel Richmond: I talk to coach Autry who is the coach that is recruiting me. What I like about Syracuse is that they are a well coached team, they know how to play good defense, and coach Boeheim lets you play as long as you play defense.

Nation of Orange: How would you fit into the zone? Have you played zone before?

JaQuel Richmond: Yes, I fit in very well in a zone. It comes easy to me.

Nation of Orange: What schools have made offers to you?

JaQuel Richmond: UNC, OSU, Virginia, Va Tech, Wake Forest, Georgetown, and Tennessee.

Nation of Orange: Do you have any visits planned?

JaQuel Richmond: I don't have any visits coming up anytime soon.

Nation of Orange: What's your time frame to make a decision on which school to go to?

JaQuel Richmond: I plan to decide during the summer after my junior year.
