We all know that the Syracuse men’s basketball team is set to travel to San Diego to play San Diego State on the U.S.S Midway on November 9th, but rumor has it today that the game may be in jeopardy.
The event is currently sponsorless, making it very difficult to run. While nothing is official yet, all signs point to the cancellation of the game. Pregame events, such as the fan festival, a benefit gala and a charity concert have already been cancelled, which does not bode well for the event.
Fox Sports, the event’s producer remains confident that the game will happen on the ship. A network spokesman said "We're in discussions with the schools and we're optimistic we can find a solution. We still want to produce and televise the game on the Midway as planned." More than likely, if the event can not find a sponsor, it will not happen on the Midway. Both schools declined to comment.
The cancellation of the game puts many questions into the minds of Syracuse fans. Will the game still happen, even if it’s off the ship? Will it become a home game for San Diego St. or will they move it to a true neutral site? If the game doesn’t happen, do the Orange schedule someone else?
While nothing is yet official, a final announcement is expected in the next couple of days. Check back for more info as the story develops.
