  • 2012 Syracuse Commit Jerami Grant

    By Michael McAllister

Four-star versatile forward prospect Jerami Grant committed to Syracuse in September of 2011. Grant plays for DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland, and is ranked as the 10th best power forward in the class of 2012. Grant is a versatile player that can play either forward position. At 6'8", he has the height to shoot over smaller defenders, and quickness to drive past most forwards. He has a good shooting touch, and is a threat to score from anywhere on the court.

Jerami also had offers from several other schools, including hometown Maryland, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Georgetown, Marquette, Notre Dame, and Texas. When he finally settled on Syracuse, it may have been non-basketball reasons that swayed his decision. I told him to do your homework and go wherever you feel the most comfortable,’’ Jerami's father, Harvey, said. “You have to go to a school where, if you took basketball out of the equation, you would still be happy going to school there. He did that.’’ That's not to say basketball had no impact. Jerami said, "I made the decision based on Syracuse's style of play. I'm a forward and Syracuse does wonderful things with their forwards. Guys like Carmelo, Wes Johnson and Donte Greene."

Nation of Orange's sister site, Coast2CoastHoops.com, was able to catch up with Jerami at a recent high-school tournament:
